The defining characteristic of linear grooves is that they consist of a string of notes played individually (one-at-a-time), rather than two or more notes being played simultaneously (“stacked” on top of each other).

In our first groove in this style, we’ll play a bass drum on Beat 1 and a snare drum on Beat 2, filling in between them with a series of 16th notes on the hihat.
