Combining the ideas from our previous Faux double bass exercises 1, 2 and 3, we’ve now got our first complete “Faux double bass groove.”

The right hand plays continuous 8th notes between the ride cymbal and floor tom, while the right foot (on bass drum) and left hand (on floor tom and snare drum) fill in all the “empty” spaces. This creates a super rad, super fun groove that’s somewhat similar to a standard double bass drum pattern . . . but even cooler!

As I mentioned when introducing exercise 1, this idea came from a drum lesson I had several years ago with the awesome Jimi Englund. Definitely check him out if/when you get a chance!
