Here’s the first of a fun little series inspired by a groove I learned several years ago from Jimi Englund, an incredible drummer who used to live in Minneapolis. He was performing at the time with the group Hindu Rodeo.
I call the rhythm that he showed me “Faux double bass” and am going to break it down for you into three simple exercises. We’ll later put it all together and then expand on that original groove.
In “Faux double bass exercise: 1,” we’re playing a standard 8th-note Rock groove, but with our right hand moving back-and-forth between the ride cymbal and floor tom.
Stay tuned: Exercise 2 is on its way very soon.
